As part of their initiative, the student tech team brainstormed examples that could be used across grade levels and subjects. They chose three powerful themes from their reading curriculum and state standards to showcase the potential of AR in storytelling: World War II Propaganda, Fairy Tales, and Pioneer Day.
In the World War II projects, 5th grade students researched historical propaganda campaigns and created AR scenes that highlighted Victory Gardens, War Bonds, and the role of women in the war effort. Using ARMakr, they imported images such as posters and historical photos, then recorded voiceovers to explain the significance of each scene. These interactive stories helped bring history to life in a way that was both educational and engaging. *Student Audio Removed from videos.
For the Fairy Tale unit, students designed magical AR environments inspired by classic and original stories. Castles, enchanted forests, and mythical creatures filled their digital worlds, while their recorded narrations added depth and personality to each tale. This project encouraged creativity, storytelling skills, and visual design.
During Pioneer Day, students used AR to recreate scenes from frontier life. They built virtual landscapes featuring log cabins, covered wagons, and daily chores, then narrated their scenes to share what life was like for early settlers. This hands-on approach helped students connect with historical content in a meaningful and memorable way.
What makes this initiative especially impactful is that the student tech team didn’t just create these projects—they taught the teachers how to do it too. On our monthly Tech Professional Development Day the tech team students guided their teachers through the ARMakr app, showing them how to build scenes, import images, and record voiceovers. By modeling the process and sharing their own work, students empowered teachers to bring AR storytelling into their own classrooms, sparking a wave of creativity and collaboration across the school.

I love this! I have some VR headsets that I am always trying to find fun ways to use. Having them create a story that they can walk through is a great idea. I will be doing this, thank you!
