In our everyday work with young children, we ask a lot of questions.
“How are you?”
“What do you need?”
And we expect answers. But not every child can respond the way we ask. Some children don’t have the words yet. Some don’t want to speak in front of others. And some stay quiet — even though there is a lot going on inside.
That was the starting point for Little Voice.
Not a technical idea. A real situation. A child who couldn’t express what they felt. And the realization:
We are not hearing everything.
So I started to rethink participation.
What if children don’t need to speak to be involved?
What if they can simply show what matters to them?
Little Voice is a simple tool that allows children to express feelings and needs through visual choices.
No accounts.
No pressure.
No complex language.
And one important aspect:
Children can respond anonymously. This changes everything. The answers become more honest. More direct. Sometimes very different from what we expected.
As a kindergarten leader, this is not just about using an app.
It’s about creating a space where every child can participate — including those we might otherwise overlook.
Participation doesn’t start with big concepts.
It starts with small, safe moments
where children can show what is really inside.
And sometimes,
all it takes is a simple way to give them a voice.
