The Water We Share: From Student Voice to Sustainable Action

The Water We Share: From Student Voice to Sustainable Action

How can students transform global challenges into meaningful actions for their own community?

As part of Global Earth Day 2026, our students joined the international collaboration “The Water We Share: Voices from Around the World”, an initiative that connected learners from different communities to explore one of the most important challenges we share: taking care of our water.

At Colegio Simón Bolívar, this experience became more than a conversation about sustainability. It became an opportunity for students to investigate, design, create, and take action.

Our 1st-grade middle school students, Samuel Gómez Castañeda, Valentina Pérez Ramos, and Ximena Bayardo Toscano, guided by their English coach, Bryant Valdez Ulloa, explored how water impacts our community and researched sustainable alternatives to promote awareness and responsible use.

Using the iPad as a learning tool, students documented their process, organized their ideas, created digital evidence, and communicated their findings with a global audience. Technology helped amplify their voices and connect their local perspective with a worldwide conversation. During the follow-up session, our students presented their water filter prototype: a tangible representation of their research, creativity, and commitment to creating a positive impact.

This learning journey strengthened:

💧 Environmental awareness

🌎 Global collaboration

💡 Critical thinking

🎨 Creativity

🗣️ Communication skills

Supported by Innovation Coordinator Jerson Zepeda, ADE and ALC, and Norma Navarrete, ALC and Middle School Principal, this experience reflects our belief that meaningful learning happens when students have a purpose, a voice, and the opportunity to make a difference.

At Colegio Simón Bolívar, innovation is not only about imagining new possibilities. It is about inspiring students to create solutions that can impact their community and the world.
