Crafting a "Why" Promo: Inspiring Purposeful Tech Use in Schools

We are creators...

Overview & Vision:

In the School District of Waukesha, our vision is built on purposefully integrating innovative technology to create active, safe learning experiences that prepare students for a successful future.

We recognize that not all technology use is created equal. To make technology truly meaningful in the classroom, integration must be: Intentional, Purposeful, Transformative, Accessible and Authentic.

The "Our Students Are....Tech" Storytelling Framework"

To help district leaders, instructional coaches, and educators share this passion, we built a template that acts as a "commercial" for intentional tech. It guides districts through illustrating the evolution of learning in modern classrooms.

Elevating Student Experience

Technology should shift students from standard classroom tasks to empowered creation:

  • Traditional Foundation: Students start as readers, writers, note takers, listeners, and critical consumers.
  • Dynamic Content Creation: With purposeful technology, students transform into Designers, Communicators, Critical Thinkers, Videographers, Problem Solvers, Podcasters, Publishers, Collaborators, and Creators.
  • Tag Line: "Our technology use is as diverse and creative as our students."

How to Build and Publish Your Commercial

  1. Customize Your Story in Keynote: Personalize the slides to reflect your district's mission and highlight your students' voices.
  2. Export Keynote as a Movie: Navigate to File > Export To > Movie... in Keynote to convert your slide deck into a video file.
  3. Add Music in iMovie for Maximum Impact: Import your exported movie into iMovie. Drop in an inspirational soundtrack or soundtrack loop from iMovie’s built-in audio library (or Apple Loops) to match the energy shift building from calm during the traditional roles to upbeat and dynamic as students become creators. Adjust audio if you include voiceover narration.
  4. Share the Final Cut: Export your finished movie from iMovie and share it during professional learning sessions, on social media, during school board presentations, or at parent nights to showcase your district's vision for purposeful technology.

Ready Made Resource:

The attached Keynote template is completely ready-made for you to download, customize with your own District branding, logos, and classroom photos, and publish to tell your unique story!
