Building Thinking Classrooms

We are implementing the practices within Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics by Peter Liljedahl. This is a great model of instruction designed to get learners thinking about mathematics in a way that is collaborative, engaging, and effective.

Are you or anyone else in your learning environment implementing these practices? How have you leveraged Apple technology to support this model of instruction?

I’m in a deep dive with BTC at the grade two/three level and loving it for so many reasons. Sadly I am quite limited in my access to up to date technology so I haven’t yet explored a way to use it with this process. I do think about it though so would lo=e to be a part of such conversation. Fantastic! We've been implementing it mostly in the secondary environment, but am seeing a lot of opportunity for elementary grade levels to benefit from the practices as well.

I'll be curious if there are other Apple Teachers and/or ADEs dabbling in this great work too. I am involved with some of the Facebook Groups too. I also happen to live in the same part of the world as Peter. Beyond using my Apple TV to project my task image to the screen, we haven't used other technology yet...

I have been involved in Building Thinking Classrooms for the last two years. It has transformed our math classrooms in many different aspects and the students are excited to participate in the instruction. I travel with the Math Learning Specialist throughout the district focusing on instruction and the use of technology. I have pondered this question many times.
