Adjusting auto lock on managed devices.

I wonder if anyone can help out on this issue. We are unable to change the Auto Lock timing on Shared iPads, meaning that the screen turns off and locks after the default 2 minutes. We have successfully changed the timeout period which requires the user to enter their password again, but the screen will turn off after two minutes of 'inactivity'. This includes when displaying something on the screen at the front of the classroom, or if pupils are using the iPad as a textbook reading from the screen but not necessarily touching the screen. We use Microsoft Intune to manage the iPads but our IT team have not been able to find a setting to modify or any way to resolve this issue, and they report back that it seems like it is simply not possible on Shared iPads (where they have been set up as Shared iPads, that pupils log in to with their own Apple IDs). Have you had similar issues and how have they been solved?

Many thanks,

James

Hi James,

Thanks for the question.

As you and your team have deduced, you can extend the limits to when the iPad logs out of Shared iPad but Auto Lock is something that is on by default for each Shared iPad device and cannot be changed currently.

This, however, is an excellent feature request. Please consider submitting it here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/
