Issues with Apple Classroom

Is anyone else having issues with Apple Classroom? For some reason, starting this school year students are only connecting if we ring them and ask them to join. If the student joins, we no longer have the option to lock, mute, or airplay their iPads. Those options are all grayed out. I looked at the students side of Classroom and they no longer have options to say "Ask", etc. It's so weird and making this device not user friendly to manage students when they are on theirs.

Are your classes managed classes set up in ASM?

I was also having this problem. Then I noticed I could utilize Classroom without the grayed-out options and ringing in newer parts of my building but not the older. It came down to permissions through the router switches.

Could you check the status of this setting in Apple School Manager:

Access Management > Apple Services > Privacy & Security > "Unmanaged Nearby Classes in Classroom"

We had that option enabled which meant our ASM classes weren't being applied on student devices and in a similar way had to "ring" the devices to have them join.

Thanks for sharing your concern! Please feel free to discuss this further with your dedicated Education SE. You can find out who your Apple SE is by calling 1-800-800-2775 and choose option 4 to get connected with your school's Apple sales team.

Best,

Dominique
