Managed Apple ID’s and Graduates

Question:

Hi everyone,

We’ve been considering using Managed Apple ID’s with students, however one of our road blocks is around the process of moving graduates digital artifacts. What process are you encouraging students to take upon graduation?

Thanks.

Before students graduate we tell them they will no longer have their school Apple ID. A few have things they want and we help them get them off. Most just airdrop what they want to a personal device. But we tell them their accounts will be deleted once they graduate.

Yes, and if students need a little more time to get their data once they leave--and your school has enabled "Data & Privacy Access" in Apple School Manager--students would be able to request a copy of their data. More details found here.

However, Brian's experience matches much of what I've seen. On the last day of school students AirDrop to their personal device or create a shared folder with their personal Apple ID.

We use MAIDs and Google Workspace and encourage kids to upload finished products to Google Drive as they complete them. All graduating students then use Google Takeout to download all projects from grades 4-12.
