Mix recordings.
GarageBand lets you adjust and add effects to recorded tracks so they work together and complement one another. Mixing tracks is the final step before exporting audio projects and sharing them with students, parents, or colleagues.

Set the volume for each track. In a track header, drag the Volume slider left or right to lower or raise the volume level.
Adjust the balance between the left and right speakers. Move the pointer over the Pan knob and drag up or down to turn the dial to the left or right.
Refine your mix using Mute and Solo. Click the Mute button to temporarily silence a track during playback. Click the Solo button to silence all other tracks and listen to a track by itself. This can be helpful when adjusting levels on each track.
Open the Smart Controls panel. Click the Smart Controls button in the control bar.
Add effects. Click the disclosure triangle next to Plug‑ins on the left of the Smart Controls panel. Drag the Master Echo and Master Reverb sliders to hear how they affect the sound.
Add a fade‑out. Choose Mix , Create Volume Fade Out on Main Output to add a gradual fade to the end of your project.
Record parts of a play or a skit using separate tracks. Mix the tracks so all the voices can be heard equally, then apply effects to enhance the characters’ personalities.
Add effects like reverb and echo when mixing a project to simulate the sound of voices recorded in different environments, like a large hall or a river canyon.
You can add new sounds and even more effects to your projects with additional plug‑ins called Audio Units. Some Audio Units may already be installed on your computer, and many more are available from other sources.
