Pixel Art

I was working with a 4th grade teacher who reminded me of the activity where students would color a picture based on the answer to a math problem. I began thinking about the process of this activity.  If a student makes a mistake and colors the space a wrong color then the whole picture is messed up.  We decided to create a digital version of this idea for students to use with their iPads.

This activity is created in Numbers and uses a mix of tables and formulas.  As students enter the correct answer, a picture will begin to appear.  Students are asked to show their work to solve each problem on their iPad to ensure they are not guessing and checking.  We hope your students enjoy it as much as ours do.

These Numbers templates took me back to my own elementary math classes and completing the "color by number" practice activities you described. I really love how you brought this activity into a digital space. It would be great to have students collaborate with partners to complete a template, so they're practicing together and able to discuss their problem-solving process as they work. Thanks for sharing!
