Create Effective Video Lessons in 3 Simple Steps: No Editing Needed

Hey fellow educators and content creators!

I’m excited to share a straightforward and efficient method for creating quick video lessons using materials you likely already have. If you have an iPhone or MacBook camera, some colored markers, and a whiteboard or pieces of a slidable whiteboard, you’re all set! Here’s what makes this tutorial special: it’s all about the simplicity of "point and shoot." No editing is required. Just hit record, teach your lesson, and then upload it to YouTube.

Here are 3 easy steps to get started:

  1. Prepare and Plan: Gather your materials—iPhone or MacBook camera, microphone, colored markers, and whiteboard. Write out your lesson on the whiteboard to use as your script.
  2. Record Your Lesson: Set up your camera to capture both you and the whiteboard. Press record and start teaching. Remember, it’s okay to feel awkward at first. Use your lecture slides to guide you.
  3. Upload to YouTube: Once done, simply upload your video to YouTube. No editing required—just hit finish and share.

A little tip from my experience: recording yourself can feel awkward at first. You might think your voice sounds weird, or you might get stuck and not know what to say. That’s completely normal and part of the journey! One trick I’ve found helpful is to use your handwritten lesson on your whiteboard as a script. Since you wrote it yourself, it’s easy to follow, and remember—you’re the expert on your subject!

Don’t worry about a million people watching your content. Focus on the fact that your video will primarily be seen by your students. This can help reduce the anxiety of recording yourself for the first time. Remember, we are creating these videos to teach, not to entertain. Happy teaching!

Feel free to share your experiences and tips on video lesson creation. Let’s learn and grow together!
