Finding authentic ways to use the Apple Pencil in elementary classes is not always an easy task.
Next year we’ll have two year groups that all have iPads, keyboards and pencils. One year group has had a year already to utilise these tools, the other year group will be new to them. The current year group have found that if they don’t use them regularly enough the pairing falls away.
One way we found to encourage regular use was to create mindful colouring Keynotes and to use these as a ‘settling’ activity a few times a week after lunch. The teachers found this worked really well and intend to continue it next year.
However I’ve been thinking about authentic ways that we might get our second year group started with their Apple pencils.
We always begin each year getting to know our new students, and we are focusing on a new Wellbeing curriculum also - so I’ve created a workbook they can use that encourages them to use their Apple pencil in order to complete activities that require them to think about their wellbeing.
The Everyone Can Create Drawing book was a helpful springboard for this resource and would be a great place to go for more ideas.
If the workbook would be handy for you, feel free to download it and tweak it for your students.
