High School Learning with Apple #12: Video Responses

Jennifer Orton (@jorton) and I met at ADE institute in 2023 and have been working on compiling lessons for high school teachers using MacBooks or iPads in class. Jennifer uses iPads, and I use MacBooks, and in our collaboration, we realized that small adjustments can be made to apply the lessons in each environment. Over the next 30 days, we’ll post one lesson idea each day!

Lesson Idea #12: Video Responses

As an AP Macro/Microeconomics teacher, we graphed to prepare for the AP exam...A LOT. I wanted to make certain students were setting up their graphs correctly (get all the points). I also couldn't figure out where students went wrong on some of their free response questions since they were doing quite a bit of interpretation. My solution was to have students create video responses to their practice FRQ tests rather than completing them traditionally on paper and pencil.

Students would use QuickTime Player to record themselves working out the problems on their desks or on paper AND explain their reasoning as they completed the problem. The quality of work I saw from my students improved tremendously after they began recording their video responses.
