Keynote Wellbeing Self Portrait

My Year 2 ākonga (students) are learning about themselves and their whānau (family). We are investigating Te Whare Tapa Whā (a wellbeing model) that takes a holistic view of wellbeing. Developed by Sir Mason Durie we have started to investigate all aspects of this to develop a Self Portrait on Keynote with our 6 year olds.

My students have spent time learning that each part of the model is important for their wellbeing. They then took a Portrait photo of a classmate and uploaded it into Keynote to remove the background. Afterwards they planned which Keynote symbols and images fitted their self portrait. After choosing them they added a colour of their choice, resized the image and used opaque to give the illusion of the images blending into half of their face. They could then choose to add, eg Ko Bex ahau, My name is Bex, in Māori.

Self Portrait

I would love to hear how other educators are supporting their students to use imagery and symbols in their artwork and learning!
