Empowering All Learners: Accessibility PD Highlights + Action Plan

We recently hosted a powerful professional development session focused on leveraging Apple's accessibility tools to support diverse learners in our classrooms.

The session explored built-in iPad and Mac accessibility features that can make a meaningful difference—ranging from VoiceOver and Speak Screen to Guided Access and Live Captions. Educators were especially inspired by how small adjustments can remove significant barriers to learning.

Resource Spotlight: We used the 30 Accessibility Tips with Thoughts document to spark discussions, provide real examples, and help educators visualize how these features apply to real student needs.

Action-Oriented Approach: Each participant completed an Accessibility Commitment Card (see attached), outlining:

  • A new feature they’ll try this week
  • Specific student(s) it may help
  • Support they might need

This simple tool encouraged reflection and accountability while promoting meaningful experimentation in classrooms.

We’d love to hear how your school is encouraging staff to take practical steps toward accessibility. Do you use commitment tools or reflection strategies like this? Share your insights!
