Learning with iPad - Titration Time Attack!

Context

Titration is a critical skill but often tedious and procedural. This lesson gamifies the concept using iPad timers, digital data recording, and visual annotation to make practice more engaging. This also allows students to practise titration safely outside of a lab setting (through the use of videos).

Preparation & Flow

Introduction and Warm-up : pH and Indicator Recap (10 mins)

(Teacher-led) Review strong/weak acids and bases, pH indicators and their respective colours, titration curves and equivalence points.

Titration Race (30 mins)

Students perform a simplified titration (if available) or watch a recorded demo. They time themselves to reach neutralisation in three attempts, tracking volume and time. Annotate each step using Notability or Freeform.

In a lab setting, teachers should emphasise lab and experimental safety.

Data Presentation (20 mins)

Students graph volume vs pH or trial data using Keynote. Presentation to explain accuracy, precision, and errors among other key observations.

Teachers to clarify doubts and misconceptions at this juncture.

Wrap-up Quiz (10 mins)

Kahoot or MCQ quiz to recap on calculations and indicators. Teachers can also use this time to reveal correct answers based on the preparation of lab materials.
