Context
Teachers wonder all the time how to ensure students are on task especially with everyone on a screen. More importantly, we also want to get feedback on how students are progressing and take action e.g. give pointers on their worksheets as they are working on it. In short, I would like a way to share a worksheet, have students work on it while I monitor and help them when required. Using a web app like Classkick, that is possible.
Preparation and Flow
Do note that teachers will need to sign up for a free account to get started.
Assignments can be either uploaded as PDFs or created in the web app online.
You will also need to create a class roster to create a code where students can join.
To access the worksheets, students can either use it through the app, or run it off a browser like Safari. Have them tap on Log in and join with a code if it is on the browser. On an app, students will be prompted to enter the code and give a name.
Note that in the free account, you will need to ensure students sign in and re-sign in with the same name (caps matter). Google Classroom integration is possible.
You can monitor student progress with the boxes showing which page each student is at.
Additionally, you can tap into a students work as they are working on it to help each student on their assignment in real time.
Students' work are kept online and they can be accessed again by rejoining with the class code and their names (remember caps matter).
Have students work on as you monitor and give help when needed.
Possible Extensions
There are many other features. This includes having students help each other; a useful tool that helps develop student agency and confidence. Do give it a try if you have not tried it before.
