Modified Claim and Reasoning Keynote

Lesson Details: Students have been working on Module 1 of Wit & Wisdom which has a theme of The Sea. Students read a variety of texts and art work related to the sea to answer the essential question: Why and how do scientists explore the sea? After reading the Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau, students chose a tool that he used and how it helped it explore the sea.

Goals/Objectives

  1. Use text features (images and captions) to aid in comprehension. 
  2. Use text evidence to support a claim.

This was a modified version of the activity. Some students were handed a sheet of paper with lines to write a response and draw an image of the tool. This version allowed for students with fine motor delays to to import an image of the tool rather than draw it. Students with limited writing skills were able to use word prediction, speech to text and spell check to develop a complete answer.
