More Than a Drawing: Turning Character Ideas into Digital Stories

Description of the Output

Students will create an original storybook character using Keynote. They will design their character using drawings, shapes, stickers, and text. Learners will describe their character’s appearance, personality, favorite things, and special talent. Finally, they will record a video introduction and animate their character using Magic Move to create an engaging digital character presentation.

Grade Level: Grade 2

  • Create simple texts with supporting illustrations.
  • Present ideas confidently through oral communication and multimedia tools.

Learners create and present descriptions of characters using appropriate words and details.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Slide 1: Cover Page

  1. Introduce the lesson "Meet My Storybook Character."
  2. Discuss the essential question.
  3. "How can I create a character that others can imagine and understand?"
  4. Explain that students will become authors, illustrators, and storytellers.

Slide 2: Create Your Character

  1. Open the blank canvas provided.
  2. Draw an original character.
  3. Use shapes, stickers, colors, and drawing tools to enhance the design.
  4. Encourage students to be creative and imaginative.
  5. Duplicate the slide in preparation for Magic Move.

Slides 2–3: Magic Move Animation

  1. Duplicate the character slide.
  2. Move or resize elements on the second slide.
  3. Apply Magic Move between the two slides.
  4. Preview the animation to bring the character to life.

Slide 4: Character Description

  1. Insert the completed character into the designated area.
  2. Write a description of the character including:
  • Name
  • Appearance
  • Personality
  • Favorite Things
  • Special Talent
  1. Use descriptive adjectives to make the character vivid and engaging. 

Slide 5: Character Introduction

  1. Add the completed character to the slide.
  2. Record a video introducing the character.
  3. Explain:
  • Who the character is
  • What the character looks like
  • What the character likes
  • What makes the character special
  1. Optional: Share a short story or adventure involving the character.
  2. Present the final project to classmates.
