My Fitness My Health

Grade/Level: Grade 12 Physical Education

Durations: 4 weeks

Short Description : This term course equips learners with the knowledge and skills to enhance personal health through fitness and exercise. Learners will engage in various physical activities that promote well-being, teamwork, and an appreciation for an active lifestyle.

Learning Goal and Skill: In this Grade 11 PE lesson, I aim to help students become more aware of their personal fitness journey by assessing their current fitness levels, participating in health-related exercises, and creating a personalized exercise program in preparation for circuit training. By leveraging Apple technologies such as iPad, Active Arcade, Stop Motion Studio, Pages, Numbers, and fitness-tracking apps, students are empowered to take ownership of their learning. They can track their progress, reflect on their performance, and make informed decisions about their health and wellness. My goal is for students to see fitness not just as a classroom requirement, but as a lifelong habit that supports their overall well-being.

Apple Tool or Feature Used:

1. Stop Motion Studio (iPad)

2. Active Arcade

3. Numbers

4. Pages

5. Strava App or Zepp App

Lesson Flow or Activity Steps

Activity 1: Motivation – Active Arcade (Reaction Flow)

To kick off our fitness lesson, I paired students and had them use Active Arcade's Reaction Flow on the iPad. As they completed challenges, they recorded their scores, successful reactions, and personal observations, making fitness assessment both fun and engaging.

Activity 2: BMI Assessment with Numbers

Students measured their height and weight, calculated their BMI using CDC @ www.cdc.com guidelines, and recorded their results in Numbers. This activity helped them better understand body composition and its role in overall fitness.

Activity 3: Health-Related Exercises Through Stop Motion

Working in pairs, students selected health-related exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, planks, squats, jumping jacks, and stretching activities. Using Stop Motion Studio on the iPad, they created short instructional videos demonstrating proper form, target muscle groups, and the fitness components being developed.

Activity 4: Creating a Personalized Exercise Program

Using Pages and Numbers, students designed their own exercise programs based on their fitness goals. They then used Strava or Zepp to record workouts, monitor activity levels, and track improvements throughout the unit.

Student Output: Virtual Fitness Tracker

Students compiled a digital fitness portfolio that included their personal profile, BMI results, Active Arcade scores, activity logs, exercise records, reflections, and fitness goals. This served as evidence of their learning, progress, and self-assessment throughout the lesson.

Performance Assessment: Circuit Training Challenge

To demonstrate their learning, students completed a circuit training assessment that included stations such as squats, push-ups, sit-ups, planks, burpees, and high knees. This allowed them to apply their personalized fitness plans while showcasing improvements in strength, endurance, and overall fitness.

Impact on Learning

By integrating Apple technology into PE, my students became more engaged, reflective, and accountable for their fitness journey. The use of iPad apps transformed traditional fitness activities into meaningful learning experiences that combined movement, creativity, data analysis, and personal goal setting.
