Cool Jobs, Big Dreams: Interactive Primary English Resource for Year 6 CEFR

I created this interactive guide to help fellow primary educators simplify lesson planning while making career vocabulary engaging for Year 6 students. It combines structured matching tasks with practical teacher notes to inspire active learning and language acquisition.This resource outlines a complete 5E Instructional Model lesson plan for Year 6 CEFR English (Unit 4: Cool Jobs). Teachers can seamlessly guide students from hook to assessment: starting with an interactive video (Engage), followed by audio-image matching tasks (Explore), target grammar instruction on relative clauses and present simple verbs (Explain), hands-on iPad media creation with Memoji audio recordings in Pages (Elaborate), and concluding with peer error-analysis and written reflection (Evaluate).

1. Engage (Listening & Speaking)

• Implementation: The teacher plays a short job montage video on the display or iPads to capture interest.
• Classroom Action: Students observe everyday and unique careers, then participate in a whole-class discussion sharing initial impressions of different professions.

2. Explore (Listening & Critical Thinking)

• Implementation: Students listen to audio clues describing specific job roles and responsibilities.
• Classroom Action: Pupils actively match $5/6$ job images to their corresponding audio descriptions on their devices, exercising active listening and critical analysis.

3. Explain (Reading & Language Awareness)

• Implementation: The teacher introduces target verbs (teaches, cooks, protects) and explicitly models subject-verb agreement (-s/-es ending) using the target sentence structure: A/An + [Job Title] + is someone who + [Verb in Present Simple].
• Classroom Action: Students identify and read key job specifications to understand the grammatical rule before applying it.

4. Elaborate (Speaking & Digital Tech)

• Implementation: Students apply their learning by creating interactive media in Pages.
• Classroom Action: Working individually or in pairs, pupils record a short Memoji interview dialogue acting as an interviewer and applicant, using the target formula to explain their chosen job.

5. Evaluate (Writing & Editing)

• Implementation: A peer or self-assessment editing task focused on accuracy.
• Classroom Action: Students review short texts to spot and correct grammar/vocabulary mistakes, applying their knowledge by writing at least 2 correct target sentences containing relative clauses ("is someone who...").
