I enjoy using the Procreate app, both for generating visuals that can be used in teaching and simply for my creative pleasure. However, it is an app built for professionals and I have found it to have a learning curve if you want to take advantage of its amazing digital features. I have spent lots of time doing tutorials, practicing, and playing. I've discovered some simple tricks that can help you to begin unlocking some of the features that can help you to draw like a PRO, even if you aren't an artist!
Last weekend I presented my "Procreate: Not Just for Pros Workshop" for the ISTE Creative Constructor conference. If you were not able to attend the conference, I wanted to share my resources with the Apple Community.
The hands-on activity that we did during the workshop was creating a name logo. In this activity, participants learned how to:
- Use and edit brushes
- Add, adjust, and move layers
- Create, fill, and adjust smart shapes
- Use Apha Lock or Clipping Mask to add texture onto a shape
- Make a shadow using Gaussian Blur
- Type and edit text
- Add flare effects using special brushes
Here is the tutorial for this activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGkPYmXFrqE
I hope this might encourage you to get started with Procreate or give you some resources that you can use with your students!

Really appreciate this tutorial, Karen! I am one of those people that finds Procreate a little intimidating, so this is a really helpful resource to get started!
