For the past 2 years, I was a full time virtual first grade teacher. I absolutely loved it and found a passion through working with young learners over our online platform. Students were online with me from 8:30am-3:00 Monday-Friday on Google meet and I would assign assignments on the platform seesaw.
I used Google slides as a way to display my lessons and lesson topics.
we utilized Google meet tools such as the hand raise feature, the quiz feature and emoji sticker feature.
We managed to build a strong class community online and made meaningful connections with each other. It was amazing to be a part of their homes on their computers.
Regrettably, my program was cut this upcoming school year. It is with a heavy heart that I’m returning back to the classroom this year. I’m disappointed that it ended, but I’m going to do my best to implement as much technology into the classroom as possible following my virtual teaching journey.
