Creating a Community with AR Makr

After learning about Community Helpers and important locations around town my First Grade ELL students created their own Augmented Reality town with AR Makr. In this activity students searched for pictures of community buildings and placed them into a Keynote slide. Students then lowered the opacity of their image and traced and colored over it. We exported our new Keynote drawings into images and added them into the AR Makr App. Together we placed our community buildings around our Augmented Reality space and students were instructed to create a video tour of the town. Upon reviewing students' videos I was able to assess the learning of the new community vocabulary words and students' speaking skills. I have attached an example of one of our Community Tours:

So cool Katie to walk through the town your students created! So many good skills accomplished here. I like that the students first looked for photos of community places then drew over them. They must all feel quite accomplished with their community creation!

I had a hard time visualizing how you would do this, but wow, that video! Amazing what even early learners can do. How cool!
