Our district iTeam started something new this year in our district, Tech Events. Tech Events are after school and a time for kids to create what without it being tied to an academic standard or a specific app. We also want to center these events around something going on in the world so it's relevant.
We had a first Tech Event in February - Super Bowl Tech Party. To prepare for the event we:
- brainstormed some activities for kids to choose from that centered around our theme and offered them voice and choice in creating
- created templates with the activity, description and a QR codes for how-to's if they needed support with an app/activity
- ordered decorations and food
- made flyers and short videos to advertise
We kicked off the event right after the school day with a little snack... NACHOS! After a quick snack, the creating began. Around 50 kids, grades 4-8, were creating, learning from one another and expanding their iPad skills.
