Students and Constructive Feedback

We talked about feedback in the earlier presentation and I had the experience of gathering feedback from students. I had to teach students explicitly how to give constructive feedback - be kind, be specific and provide solutions. Much similar to what was shared and it highlighted to need to be specific and intentional when talking about feedback (soft on person and hard on content).

For my classes, I shared a horrible drawing and told students to give feedback on the picture I drew. I repeated again that they have to be kind, specific and provide solutions. And students tried very hard to give constructive feedback, trying very hard not to criticise and offering all kinds of solutions on how to make the drawing better. This set the precedent for them to give me honest feedback on my lessons and the data I collected were heartfelt and insightful.
