Future Jobs in STEAM

During this morning’s keynote on the World Economic Forum Future Job Survey on Future Skills, I was very interested in point 4, “Curiosity and Lifelong Learning,” which dovetails with our school, Ōpuankē Primary’s mission of “Educate to Innovate.”

One of our school’s strengths is our STEAM Club, where our year 7-8 students get to dip their toes into interesting and engaging technologies such as robotics, 3D printing, biology, computer programming, and laser cutting.

Working in our school workshop, we train students to use iPads and iMacs to design and manufacture personalized art and furniture. Seeing the students’ joy as they watch the laser cutters produce their work through the power of lasers, and then telling them that people get paid to work with these machines every day always brings a smile to my face.

I wonder what “Future Jobs” your classes/school have explored using iPads and Macs?
