Photography and iPad

We are all au fait with photography and the iPad, all of us at some point have used photography in our lessons for different purposes and outcomes. As an Art and Photography Teacher I have explored different approaches and developed different techniques, however the new curriculum in Wales has set about a new challenge in my department.

Previously Year 9 (age 13-14 year olds) started their GCSE curriculum, a healthy number of pupils (around 45) would opt for the subject and we would develop their skills using DSLR cameras and Photoshop on Mac with some iPad Photography and editing to compliment the other skills learnt. However, due to the new curriculum, all pupils now have to select an Expressive Arts subject and cue 80 pupils opting for the subject with only one Photography room with one suite of Macs, in addition to this their curriculum could not be the same as the GCSE one.

The challenge: 24 Macs and 10 Photography classes from Year 9 to A Level.

The Answer: A complete curriculum focused on iPad Photography and editing that prepares pupils for GCSE.

Alongside my team, we have developed a whole curriculum using iPad and are Keynote in creative ways to compliment the skills they will learn at GCSE. Watch this space for my One Best Thing Book based on the creative outcomes I have developed for our Photography Curriculum.
