Imagine stepping into a world where puppets tackle real-world science! Using green screen technology, 2nd graders become filmmakers, scientists, and storytellers as they explore the effects of erosion and the art of puppetry. After researching how wind and water shape the land, students create characters, design sets, and write scripts where their puppets work to solve an erosion problem. With handmade puppets in hand and creativity in motion, they film their documentaries, bringing their erosion stories to life. The result? A dynamic blend of research, storytelling, and digital media make learning unforgettable!
Research
Students investigated how wind and water cause erosion. They recorded real-life erosion examples in our community. We discussed how erosion affects land and what people do to prevent or reduce its impact. Students explored how puppets can be used to tell stories and solve problems in creative ways.
Create
Students, working in production teams, designed and built puppet characters that could observe or solve an erosion problem. They took photos or found background images for the set and wrote short scripts about the puppets solving the erosion problem. They practiced performing with voice and movement. Students filmed the puppet show in front of the green screen and worked to edit it all together on iMovie.
Showcase
Students hosted a premiere to showcase their erosion stories!

So fun Susan! (And educational). What an engaging way for students to show what they know through puppeteering and green screening. So smart!
