Thanksgiving Feast Writing

I decided to create a lesson for students on what their Thanksgiving Feasts look like. I wanted to create a graphic organizer that they could use to pave their writing. What I did was shared a mind map with them and walked them through how to fill in the map. Next, I walked them through step by step on taking their ideas and formulating them into sentence on the hamburger graphic organizer. Finally, we are taking those sentences and turning them into a paragraph by them. Some of the features that I used include dictation and voice read. I showed the students how they can read what they wrote and attach it to the document for me to listen back to for self reflection and spoken content.

When I first started to create this lesson I was a bit nervous. I am not very I-pad savvy and was nervous at delivering a lesson in this method. As I walked through the lesson with the students I realized they were engaged and enjoying writing for the first time this school year. I felt very confident in that I was making a difference in a positive manner with an area of learning they have been so negative about. I look forward to using this lesson in the years to come and creating others just like it.

Thanks for sharing this resource with us along with your reflection on how this lesson went with your students. It is so exciting to see students, especially emerging and reluctant writers, find new levels of success in their writing with the scaffolds and accessibility features that are possible in a tool like Pages!
