Unlock the magic of iPad in your classroom
As we gear up for another school year, I wanted to share something exciting that I think you'll find super helpful! I recently put together a video called “What Can I Do with iPad?” for our back-to-school professional development. The idea was to give our high school staff a quick glimpse into just how much these iPads can do as we all dive into their first year with 1:1 student iPads together.
The video serves as a fast-paced tour of some really cool features—like making movies with iMovie, creating your own podcasts, multitasking for classroom organization, and a bunch more. The video also emphasizes a very important point: you don’t have to know how to use *all* these tools right now. It’s totally okay to learn alongside your students. In fact, that’s half the fun! We’re all in this together, exploring and discovering what works best for us and our classrooms.
Each feature is a new adventure waiting to be uncovered. Maybe today you’ll play around with multitasking, and next week you might dive into some serious podcasting magic. The important thing is that you feel empowered to experiment and see what clicks for you, and what sparks the imagination of your students.
Features Showcased in the Video
Here are links to Forum Resources and/or Apple Support videos on how to utilize the features in the video:
- Video with Magic iMovie, Clips, and iMovie
- Voice Memos for recording student voice (this is also possible within Pages, Numbers, Keynote and more)
- Reader View in Safari to remove ads and simplify an article
- Use Notes for a task list, and multi-task to split your screen with a timer
- Annotate with Markup
- Customize the Control Center to access important tools, fast!
- Create Keynote animations (my favorite tools for this are Magic Move and Line Draw)
- Record a podcast with GarageBand
- Sketch in Freeform, or try it in Pages, Keynote or Numbers
- Use the Shortcuts app to increase efficiency
- Create a scan with Camera or Notes
- Create Learning Journals with Pages (or Keynote or Numbers)
- Accessibility features to make learning accessible to all students • Speak Selection is showcased in the video
After seeing how our staff responded, I thought this video might be something other teachers and tech coaches could enjoy too. Whether you're just starting with iPads or looking for fresh ideas, I hope this video sparks a little inspiration.
So go ahead—watch it, share it, and let’s continue to support each other! Here’s to a year full of learning, laughter, and a lot of “Aha!” moments!

Huge shout out to my ADE sisters Shayla Fortenberry, Eileen Vlamis, Amy Hiebert, Audriana Vigil, and Megan Trahan for their feedback and support in the creation of this! :)
