Classifying Triangles

To complete this activity, follow the steps below:

  1. Airdrop the template to your students.
  2. Students should insert triangles from the shapes library and manipulate the triangle to be able to classify it into one of the categories on the template. Students can use the additional triangle on page 2 of the template for some of their triangles, as well.
  3. Students will discover that it's impossible to create an obtuse equilateral or right equilateral triangle. The teacher should use this as a teachable moment and discuss with the students why these triangles are impossible to construct.
  4. Students can use the drawing tools in Pages to add congruent lines and right angle markings onto their triangles.
  5. Students can use the Format option in Pages to give their triangles different colors.
