Resource Description
- Grade Level: Grade 10
- Subject Area: Technical Drafting (Technology and Livelihood Education)
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Lesson Objective: At the end of the 60-minute session, the learners will visualize and present their design in a 3D-like format to show depth and structure.
- Expected Output: Digital Perspective Design
Challenge Overview
This is a two-part learning sequence: learners first complete the challenge on Floor Plan Design, and culminate in the current activity, Perspective Design. Students transform their digital plans into detailed 3D models and physical prototypes. Using applications such as Minecraft, Planner 5D, or Block Craft 3D, they visualize their ideas and evaluate how their designs address sustainability and disaster resilience. Learners culminate the challenge by presenting and defending their solutions to demonstrate how thoughtful design can contribute to safer communities.
Essential Challenge
How might innovative housing designs contribute to safer, more sustainable, and resilient communities?
Activity Guidelines
- This is an individual activity.
- The learners will use Freeform or other related software applications on the iPad to create a perspective design.
- The learners may opt to create a single-story (bungalow) or two-story unit.
- The unit of measurement to be used is meter, no scaling needed.
- A minimalist architectural design for the house interior is encouraged.
Impact on Learning
At the end of the challenge, students will be able to apply technical drafting knowledge to authentic community challenges, strengthen creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills, and develop confidence in presenting and defending their ideas. They will also gain experience with digital modeling and prototyping tools and recognize the importance of sustainable, resilient design in improving people’s lives.
