Bear-y Real

Lesson:

  • Students were learning the difference between Fiction and NonFiction through the lens of Fantasy Bears and Real-life bears.
  • The goal was for students to identify the category for the bears to reside. Students had to explain why they chose the category of Fiction or NonFiction
  • We read a lot of Fiction and Nonfiction books about bears. We compared the differences and similarities.
  • This activity was created in Keynote.

Student recorded her voice explaining her answer to the prompt. "My bear is fantasy because bears don't eat rainbows. Real bears eat fish."

Impact:

  • Students were able to identify if bears were real or fantasy and were able to explain why.
  • Students were engaged during the entirety of the activity.
  • Students expressed their thoughts creatively.

This was so much fun to implement! The students were totally engaged! They were eager to do the work and share with their peers. I will definitely do this again next year!

I also really love that the student's writing abilities didn't hinder her ability to express her comprehension of the question. Although her writing seems to say "I love bear," her recording clearly and concisely answers the prompt!
