The Dock and App Switcher help you quickly switch between apps. With Slide Over and Split View, you can open two apps — or two windows from the same app — to speed up tasks like taking notes while reading, or comparing the text in two documents.
Open the Dock. Drag up about an inch from the bottom edge of the screen, then pause. Tap an app to open it.
See your recent apps in the App Switcher. Drag up from the bottom edge, pause in the center of the screen, then release. Tap any app to open it.
Open a webpage in Slide Over. From Safari, tap the Multitasking button Multitasking button at the top of the screen, tap Slide Over Slide Over icon, then tap Notes Notes icon.
Drag the Slide Over window with Multitasking button to reposition it on or off the screen. Drag the tab or swipe from the right edge of the screen to bring it back.
Turn Slide Over into Split View. Tap Multitasking button at the top of the Safari window, then tap Split View Split View icon. Drag the middle of the split to resize.
Close Split View. Tap Multitasking button at the top of either app, then tap Full Screen Full Screen.
Read a step-by-step tutorial while you’re using another app. Open the tutorial in Slide Over, then slide the instructions on or off the screen as needed.
Initiate a class debate by comparing two photos side by side. Open the first photo in Safari, then open the second in Photos using Split View.
Use Picture in Picture to watch a video or collaborate in real time with FaceTime while using other apps.
