Use Notes to capture quick thoughts, create checklists, sketch ideas, and organize learning resources. It’s great for documenting student observations, scanning a homework assignment, and managing to‑do lists.
Create a new note and add a title. Open Notes, tap New Note New Note button, type a title, then tap Return.
Make a to-do list. Type the first item on the list, tap Checklist button, then tap Return to add more items. When iPad is in horizontal orientation, you can tap Full Screen button to hide or show the notes list.
Add a sketch. Tap Drawing button, then start drawing with your finger or Apple Pencil. Tap Done when you’re finished.
Add a photo or video. Tap Camera button, then choose Take Photo or Video. Or tap Photo Library to add a photo or video you’ve already taken.
Search Notes. With the notes list visible, swipe down on the list, then tap the search field. You can search for typed or handwritten text, or use one of the search suggestions such as Notes with Drawings.
Organize your notes into folders. Touch and hold a note in the Notes list, tap Move, then choose an existing folder, or tap New Folder to create a new folder.
Scan a printed document. Tap Camera button, choose Scan Documents, then position iPad so that the document page appears on the screen and the camera detects the edges of the pages. Snap the photo, then use the selection handles to adjust the cropping if needed. Tap Keep Scan to save the document to your note.
Sketch a new design for your learning space. Tap the Handwriting Tools button and use the drawing tools to illustrate and label classroom workstations and features.
Get instant access to Notes whenever great ideas emerge. Tap the Lock screen with Apple Pencil, or open Notes from Control Center.
Adding links and text from Safari anchors your Quick Note to the source, so a thumbnail will appear next time you visit the website. Use the # symbol and a keyword to label notes by theme, then view them in the Tag Browser.
