Making a movie in iMovie starts with creating a project, then adding the video clips and photos you want to use. By stringing together multiple clips and playing them back in sequence, you can explain a process, report on an event, or tell a story.
Create a new movie project. In Projects view, click Create New, then click Movie.
Add media from your photo library. In the Libraries list, select Photos. Click the pop‑up menu at the top of the browser to choose a content category, then double‑click one of the collections to open it.
Add a video clip. Select a video clip in the browser, then drag the clip to the timeline.
Import media from the Finder. Select a video file in any folder, then drag it to the timeline.
Skim and play video. Move the pointer back and forth over the clips in the timeline. Press the Space bar on the keyboard to play. Press again to pause.
Name the project. Click Projects, type a project title in the Name field, then click Return.
Move the pointer over a project, then click More Options below the thumbnail to open, rename, duplicate, or delete. You can also double‑click a project to open it.
Share best practices with your colleagues. Combine video clips and photos of how you work with students in your learning environment.
Motivate students with highlights of work from previous students. Take photos of work samples and record video interviews with the students who made them, then add them to a new iMovie project.
Instead of copying media from your photos library, you can import photos and video clips directly into the iMovie library, where you can organize them into events. You can use the Import window to bring in media from any location on your Mac and preview each clip before importing it.
